Chapter Twenty

Today I am celebrating my twentieth birthday. The celebrations had to be held off until I completed my last final this afternoon, but now I am free to embrace the next year of my life. Let's hope that twenty is much better than nineteen, but that I take with me all of the lessons that nineteen taught me.

Fatigue.

My mind aches, my body limps, and my eyes droop.

Finals haven't even begun for me, but the stress of preparation and finishing up final projects has already worn on me to the point of threadbare thoughts, incoherent sentences, and dizzying steps.

Grant me strength.

Muted Dresses

Muted Dresses
Muted Dresses by Sarah Bella 11 featuring a vintage inspired dress
Dresses that I would love to wear. I love the colours of cream, blush, and ivory that all appear nearly the same at a glance but are quite different upon inspection. Normally, light shades such as these would be worn in the summer but there's something about matching the snow outside that appeals to me.

Hiding from the world

I seem to have more things to do even though I have removed duties and requirements from my life. I have quit my second job as a Beauty Advisor in the Cosmetics department of my local department/drug store and I am down to one day a week (for the time being) at my student job. Yet I am busier than all belief and I cannot seem to find time to allow myself to think. At the moment I am glad for these diversions as I am frightened of what I might be compelled to dwell upon if I were to allow myself.
On a different note, the holiday season, while not necessarily "upon" us is definitely making its grand entrance with lovely decorations, happier moods, crisp weather, and warm moments. I love this season and all that comes along with it. Cheers!

I always smile when it snows

My heart warms up and I get a feeling that only comes when the Holiday season is near. I love everything about Winter... Scarves, mittens, touques, hot chocolate, fires every evening in the wood-burning fireplace, cuddling and watching holiday movies, buying gifts for loved ones, children all bundled up and playing in the front yard, walks with snowflakes drifting down...
I could keep on writing but I won't for fear of boring any poor reader of mine.
Simply put, I love winter.

See that twinkle in her eye?

Nothing can give me more joy than dance. I love it. I love to dance, I love to watch it, I love to teach it, I love to hear it, I love to breathe it. It is what I do and it is what I am.
I have no idea how I lasted from May `09 until today not dancing. But now that I'm back I don't think I'll ever be able to give it up. There is nothing better than the feeling of moving in such a way that your whole body feels beautiful. To see a group of people in awe of something you alone were able to accomplish using only the gifts and the body that God gave you is something else.
I will dance until my dying day.
With my body, in my mind, and through my heart.

Missing Piece

Literature Love

I can't wait for classes to begin! Although my major is Psychology I take at least one English class a year, and this semester I am taking "The British Novel 1800 to 1850". I looked at the book list today and almost squealed with joy. The books that I will be reading for this class are:

A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens
Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen
Oliver Twist - Charles Dickens
Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen
Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte

I have already read three of these books and have a couple of them purchased and in line for the next book I wanted to read. I'm going to earn credit for reading and analyzing books I love/enjoy?! I am one lucky girl.

Name Change

I've realized that I might have named this blog slightly wrongly. My posts have nothing to do with what I originally thought they would.  Just goes to show the transformation someone at my age and point in life goes through.  I figure the name "Sweet Spontaneity" kind of encompasses the random thoughts that I have been sharing and anything else I may choose to share in the future.

Steeples and Winding Roads

This weekend I drove out to Englefeld for my friend's wedding shower. On the way back to the city I drove past the town that houses the off-site college that I attended for my first year of University. I had never really seen the building from far away because when you approach it from the direction of the city, it is shielded by the town of Muenster and many many trees - but seeing it from the Englefeld side was a whole new perspective. This building is undeniably beautiful, with all of it's history and the surrounding grounds, but from this new view it was something else. The sun was getting low and the sky was perfectly clear and I could just see the highest point of the building peeking over some trees at first until I rounded a bend in the road and was able to see everything but the first two floors.

Whenever I'm in the area I stop in to see the Monks that live there (it is also a Benedictine Monastery) and wander the gorgeous grounds, but I hadn't been planning on it this time because I had a lot of driving to do in the short two days of the weekend and I knew I'd be coming back in a couple months for my friend's wedding anyway. Needless to say, the view drew me in and I was once again reliving my first year of university and missing my friends and my professors.

Driving down the winding road and passing over the tiny creek to go through the trees and approach the building never loses its splendor to me. My heart warms up and a sense of peace washes over me every single time. Being there made me realize that you really don't notice how something changes you until much later, and even then you most likely don't realize how it is changing you still. My experience at St. Peter's College is something that I would never trade. Even though I know circumstances prevented me from fully experiencing the lifestyle and the people that the College had to offer, I am still so thankful for the time that I was able to spend there. I will continue to visit and I will continue to be nostalgic every time. I hope that someday in the future I will bring my husband there to show him a huge part of what makes me me, and I hope that we will show our children too. This place is something that needs to be shared.

My heart has a support system.

Saw an old friend that warms my heart with every single word today. Sisterly love and support is what she offers me and what I strive to offer her. We can talk about anything: men, books, work, school, faith... you name it, it's safe.
Today I am so thankful for the wonderful people in my life.
Who are the wonderful people in your life?

Good Read

I have just finished Brunonia Barry's the Lace Reader and I absolutely adored it. The way that she was able to tell the story from different perspectives, the way she used different methods to get the story out, and the surprising twist that came scarily close to the end that I was almost worried it would be a dull book without the needed twist. Timing in this book was everything and looking back I can see so much foreshadowing that I have already planned to read it again to see what aspects of the foreshadowing are slipping my mind. Amazing book!

(Almost) Summertime

Adorable vintage-type dresses, sweet Mary Janes, and darling summer tops. Just a few of the things I've been accumulating over the past week or so. I think I'm rebounding from a whole semester of tightened purse strings. Who knew that summer job money ran out that fast? And I had a job. What the heck? Oh well.. I've been working at my last years summer job in between finals this month and starting May 3 I will be working there full time but in a different department. I can't wait! I am, however, keeping my other job. I apparantly enjoy being extremely busy and I thrive off of it... I just have difficulty remembering it.

When we two parted

4
In secret we met-
In silence I grieve,
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive.
If I should meet thee
After long years,
How should I greet thee!-
With silence and tears.

Lord Byron says it much better than I could even attempt to.

Delightful Mystery

The sun still continues to shine in my little world. If I had been keeping track of the wonderful things that I've been witnessing I would have lost count by now. I still don't know why I'm this happy, but I'm sure enjoying it. I can't help but feel this isn't just coincidence, but I truly have no idea what is spurring my current euphoria. Now I'm just trying to figure out what to do with my abundant happiness... it really isn't fair for me to keep it all to myself.

Removing Blinders

It's truly amazing how perspectives can change in the matter of minutes.. even seconds. The past couple of weeks have been something of a challenge, but one conversation turned my whole mood around and these last couple of days have been nothing but sunshine warm upon my face. And as my attitude continues to improve I notice even more amazing things happening to me and around me. Coincidence? I think not.

P.S.

I finished Wuthering Heights a couple weeks ago after what feels like literally months.. I am taking a step away from the classics for a bit (other then the many that I am studying in ENG 202.6) and reading the Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry for the next little bit here. Well.. in between studying that is. Let's hope this isn't another 6 month accomplishment.

Sorry for the Absence

Three midterms in the third week back to school? Yep, that was me. Then two more a week and a half later? Also me. Sorry for my absence, although I'm not entirely sure there's even a soul out there reading what I have to say. I will be writing more soon, just once I get my academic life sorted out, it is supposed to be first priority after all. Take care!
